Dear Seeker,

Have you ever wondered why you have the thoughts you have?

Even deeper, have you ever noticed that, depending on how you feel in this moment, you have different kinds of thoughts than if you were feeling differently?

Along this same line of noticing, have you ever noticed that your thoughts change in response to where you are, and who you are with?

You might think that this is quite obvious.

"Duh, of course I would think about my friend when I am with them, and I would have happy thoughts when I am happy and sad thoughts when I am sad."

Yes, of course. But... why?

Have you ever considered the mechanism which makes this so?

I present to you now a model of the brain and mind which may provide clarity on this mechanism. Explore it, try it on, and ponder it. It is only one of infinite possible models for explaining how the brain and mind work as they do. It is also the model which I prefer, and which makes the most sense to me, based on my own exploration of mind, spirit, and energy.

The Brain Is an Energy Radio; Thoughts Are Electromagnetic Waves

Think of your brain as a beautifully complex radio, which both transmits and receives energy. The brain is hardwired to the central nervous system which transceives signals to and from various parts of the body, controlling and responding to thousands of different stimuli. However, the brain also functions wirelessly — through the medium of mind.

If the brain is the hardware radio sending and receiving energy, then the mind is the medium through which that energy travels. The atmosphere of Earth is saturated with electromagnetic radiation spanning a wide range of frequencies: radio, ultraviolet, microwave, etc. It is the same for waves of consciousness, mental waves. All of these waves are different forms of energy, energy making waves in the medium of mind.

In the same way that ocean waves are not separate from the ocean, mind waves (thoughts) are not separate from the medium in which they move.

So far we have a basic idea of the model I am describing. Now, what does this mean for you and me? What are the practical implications of this model of the brain and mind?

Your Mind Responds to the Frequency to Which You Are Tuned

The most important thing to understand about this model is this:

You can manually adjust the channel of your brain radio. Changing the channel means changing your thoughts.

So often we go about life on autopilot, not realizing that "I" and "my thoughts" are two completely different things!

You are not your mind.

I will repeat this often at The Mindful Mage™ School for Spiritual Discovery, as this is an essential truth which you must realize if you wish to make progress on your spiritual journey.

Returning to the questions I posed at the beginning of this article: The current channel of your energy radio (your brain) automatically changes depending on countless environmental stimuli throughout your day. Here are a few scenarios in which you may have noticed a definite channel change:

  • When you are in school
  • When you are at work
  • When you are at home
  • When you are with your parents
  • When you are with your friends
  • When you are having fun
  • When you are feeling hurt

The list goes on. My point is this: your energy radio changes frequency in response to changes in your environment, both internal and external.

From the soul's perspective (what you truly are), your body is just as much part of the external environment as the screen you are looking at right now. These channel changes happen automatically for the most part — but you can change the channel manually too.

To do this, however, you first need to become aware of your thoughts (the music playing on the radio). Then, become aware of your brain (the radio). Then, realize that your radio has a dial (your intention) to change the channel.

How to Know Which Thoughts Are "Yours"

I place "yours" in quotation marks because, when you comprehend this model as deeply as I do, you realize that the idea of "my thoughts" no longer makes any sense. I don't own the thoughts which stream through my brain, in the same way that I don't own the songs which play on my radio. However, I do own the radio.

My consciousness itself may be one of infinite channels to which I can tune, streaming from the Source of All That Is.

With this idea in mind, remember that you are not your thoughts. Your thoughts do not define who you are.

On the contrary, how you feel defines the thoughts you experience.

If you want to fill your experience with thoughts of a different quality, more beneficial and uplifting perhaps, then you must turn the dial on your radio and tune yourself to that channel.

Everyone has their own wireless energy transceiver, and everyone is continuously beaming out energy of various frequencies. If you are not strongly attuned to joyful energy, then sharing time and space with someone who is strongly attuned to sadness will certainly bring you down. Do you see?

This goes very deep, dear Seeker, and I will certainly share more about it. I hope that you choose to learn as much as you can during your time at The Mindful Mage™ School for Spiritual Discovery. Perhaps I will see you in class sometime, very soon.

Your teacher,
Devin
